Scripture: Nehemiah 1-4
10 “The people you rescued by your great power and strong hand are your servants. 11 O Lord, please hear my prayer! Listen to the prayers of those of us who delight in honoring you. Please grant me success today by making the king favorable to me. Put it into his heart to be kind to me.” In those days I was the king’s cup-bearer.- Nehemiah 1
14 Then as I looked over the situation, I called together the nobles and the rest of the people and said to them, “Don’t be afraid of the enemy! Remember the Lord, who is great and glorious, and fight for your brothers, your sons, your daughters, your wives, and your homes!”
19 Then I explained to the nobles and officials and all the people, “The work is very spread out, and we are widely separated from each other along the wall.20 When you hear the blast of the trumpet, rush to wherever it is sounding. Then our God will fight for us!”
21 We worked early and late, from sunrise to sunset. And half the men were always on guard. 22 I also told everyone living outside the walls to stay in Jerusalem. That way they and their servants could help with guard duty at night and work during the day. 23 During this time, none of us—not I, nor my relatives, nor my servants, nor the guards who were with me—ever took off our clothes. We carried our weapons with us at all times, even when we went for water. - Nehemiah 4
Message:
Making a difference in your Generation. You are more than what you think you are!
Observation/Promise:
What made Nehemiah different from among his fellowmen? He was deeply troubled concerning matters of the things of GOD and His people. He was so moved by what had happened to the land of his people that he cried day and night, asking GOD to hear his plea. As a result GOD had answered him and gave him everything he needed to repair the walls of Jerusalem. When we put GOD's concerns above our own, we become one with GOD in heart and whatever we may ask in prayer, GOD will surely answer because He delights in the prayers of those who walk in His will. Nehemiah was not only a great leader but a great encourager to his people who were afraid and unsure. He reminded his people the greatness of GOD and influenced them greatly to trust in GOD alone. Everybody cooperated with Nehemiah because they could see that he was anointed and chosen of GOD to lead his people to do such a great task of rebuilding the walls of Jerusalem. Who would have thought that a King's cup bearer could do such great things?
Command/Application:
If you feel that you are just a nobody in life, you will have to change your mindset about what you think you are because our work does not define us. It is GOD who has planned the destiny of our lives and the Lord has chosen us to do great things. Yes, in the worldly sense we may only be a "cup-bearer" a regular office administrator, or whatever lowly jobs we hold in earth but GOD has created us to many battles to victory. He has called us to be warriors, victorious conquerors, leaders, builders, and so much more. Do not be limited by what you can do, but keep in mind the many great things God has in store for you to do. You are a champion! You are more than what you think, because you are HIS.
