36 And it came to pass, at the time of the offering of the evening sacrifice, that Elijah the prophet came near and said, “Lord God of Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, let it be known this day that You are God in Israel and I am Your servant, and that I have done all these things at Your word. 37 Hear me, O Lord, hear me, that this people may know that You are the Lord God, and that You have turned their hearts back to You again.”
38 Then the fire of the Lord fell and consumed the burnt sacrifice, and the wood and the stones and the dust, and it licked up the water that was in the trench. 39 Now when all the people saw it, they fell on their faces; and they said, “The Lord, He is God! The Lord, He is God!”

Let it be known that GOD is the great and only true GOD of all the earth. He is the GOD who knows the beginning from the end because He created all things. When the people of GOD are led astray from His purpose and will to destructions by sinning against HIM, GOD doesn't just let them be. HE takes action to bring them back to HIMSELF, HE cares for the ones HE created, and HE knows how helpless they are on their own. So easy it is for people to worship other gods than HIM alone, but as easily fooled we are of this world is as deep GOD's love is for each of us. HE will do things to reach out to us, even when we directly walk into darkness. He will never let us go until we ourselves have turned our backs on HIM.
The fire of the LORD will come to each of us, testing us and exposing the true motives of our hearts, the fire of the LORD will either consume us or purify our hearts to righteousness. He will not hide Himself much longer even when you feel HE has been long absent, He is invisible but it doesn't mean HE is not there. He will make Himself known, HE will reveal Himself to you as an ever present, ever living GOD! Until you see that HE alone is GOD. If you feel you are kept captive in the idols and gods of this world, as the Israelite people were captured by the idolatry and spiritual bondage of their time, hope in the LORD for HE alone is GOD and if you have been waiting for Him, you will be saved, in the day of HIS revelation.
