2 “This is what the Lord says: ‘Everyone who stays in Jerusalem will die from war, famine, or disease, but those who surrender to the Babylonians[b] will live. Their reward will be life. They will live!’ 3 The Lord also says: ‘The city of Jerusalem will certainly be handed over to the army of the king of Babylon, who will capture it.’”- Jeremiah 38
How is it that the LORD has now threatened the people and the city HE loved so much. Zion, the City of Jerusalem has now become a place of cursing for the LORD has said of that those who stay in Jerusalem "they will die..." Is not Jerusalem the City He loves? Is not Israel the people He chose to occupy this beloved land of GOD? Why now has GOD ordained such tragic destruction for Zion? This is why we need to understand the seasons that GOD has ordained in our lives. Not everything good remains to be good in every season. GOD is not a GOD whom we can predict. GOD is not someone we think we already can figure out because He is uncontainable to any box or shape, that humans may put Him in, indescribable to any word that mortals can ever think of.
During this time, the LORD was ready to punish His people for the sins that they have committed against Him. The people HE rescued from the slavery of Egypt and worked hard to bring to the promise land for 40 years is now bringing disaster to this place exiling these very ones HE rescued. How do we know that the place GOD wanted us to be is now a place of cursing that we may need to get out of? Zion can be your home, your work, place of comfort or place of complacency. The people of GOD has forgotten the LORD who brought them out of Egypt and they started worshipping idols and defiling the very place GOD has planted them in. That is why GOD has made up His mind to destroy this place and to disburse His chosen ones sending them to exile once again to a foreign land in Babylon. He directs them to be in Babylon, probably because this is the place of restoration of GOD's people to Himself, a place of discipline where they can once again turn to GOD with their whole hearts in repentance and surrender. Remember your heart is what GOD is after, if it is not fully His, He will do whatever it takes to be HIS.
