12 Now, I will speak to the rest of you, though I do not have a direct command from the Lord. If a Christian man has a wife who is not a believer and she is willing to continue living with him, he must not leave her. 13 And if a Christian woman has a husband who is not a believer and he is willing to continue living with her, she must not leave him. 14 For the Christian wife brings holiness to her marriage, and the Christian husband brings holiness to his marriage. Otherwise, your children would not be holy, but now they are holy. 15 (But if the husband or wife who isn’t a believer insists on leaving, let them go. In such cases the Christian husband or wife is no longer bound to the other, for God has called you to live in peace.) 16 Don’t you wives realize that your husbands might be saved because of you? And don’t you husbands realize that your wives might be saved because of you?- 1 Corinthians 7
The Rules of Marriage as written by Paul is not to divorce your husband or wife if your partner was an unbeliever. For the believing husband or wife sanctifies their own marriage because they believe in the LORD. One day, if the believer does not give up praying, he or she will bring salvation and light to their unbelieving partners. Of course this will take time and patience but it takes a lot of faith.
However, it's a different story if the unbelieving partner decides to leave the marriage, the believing wife or husband should let them leave and they are no longer bound to that marriage. But if the unbelieving partner does not leave, the believing partner should all the more stay and be faithful to GOD in the marriage, pray and persevere until GOD hears their pleadings to Heaven and brings salvation to their unbelieving spouse. Divorce has become very common nowadays, but remember that GOD Almighty hates divorce for it breaks the hearts and lives of not only the couple but most of all it shatters the lives of the children. It is never GOD's will for anyone or any unity to be broken, GOD is always for wholeness.
